Description of the MA Programme “National Processes in Modern Europe”

The Programme has been elaborated in cooperation with Lincoping University (Sweden) and has been accredited by the AQUIN Agency (Germany)

The conception of the Programme is based on obtaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills in analysis of ethnic, confessional and international relations in different regions in the world, specifically Russia and Europe.

The Programme idea initially comes from the fact that the modern world is the world of ethnic groups and nations. That is why it is extremely important to be skilled and knowledgeable in the phenomena of national processes. This research interest is implemented in analysis of ethnicity in historical, political, social and cultural perspectives. Study of the nation and nationalism issues is fulfilled on theoretical (concepts of identity, nation, ethnicity etc.) and empirical (conflict analysis) levels.

We plan to form competences in

understanding, analysis, forecast of the national processes, including conflicts, their reasons, logic and ways of reconciliation;

description of regional specificity of the national models and factors influencing the regional development;

explanation of possible trends in ethnic and national processes with specific interest in potential of multiculturalism.
