Period of study: 2 years (120 credits)

 

The conception of the Programme is based on understanding that the urban space is the specific environment, consisting of structural and functional systems of life-activity and of social structures, which define individuality, specificity, senses and perspectives of a city space.  

The comparative analysis of the world urban development allows to define complex methods of management in an urban space, to make a SWOT analysis, to form conceptions and vectors of development, to make perspectives feasible, to create programmes of change management.

The programme includes three interdisciplinary modules:

1.     Planning and development of the urban space: traditions and innovations. This module is devoted to study the role of design, project work and reconstruction in the urban space, ecological and demographical issues in the urban development.

2.     Analytical activity in the urban management provide the detailed practices and methods of analysis of the urban space.

3.     Self-organization and development of the urban community: theory and practice. This module consolidates at a city as a self-developing system.

The MA “Urban Studies” is a practice-based programme, meaning a set of specializations, such as Reforming and management in the urban space, Expertise and consulting activities, Human technologies in the innovative urban development.

Description of the MA Programme “National Processes in Modern Europe”

The Programme has been elaborated in cooperation with Lincoping University (Sweden) and has been accredited by the AQUIN Agency (Germany)

The conception of the Programme is based on obtaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills in analysis of ethnic, confessional and international relations in different regions in the world, specifically Russia and Europe.

The Programme idea initially comes from the fact that the modern world is the world of ethnic groups and nations. That is why it is extremely important to be skilled and knowledgeable in the phenomena of national processes. This research interest is implemented in analysis of ethnicity in historical, political, social and cultural perspectives. Study of the nation and nationalism issues is fulfilled on theoretical (concepts of identity, nation, ethnicity etc.) and empirical (conflict analysis) levels.

We plan to form competences in

understanding, analysis, forecast of the national processes, including conflicts, their reasons, logic and ways of reconciliation;

description of regional specificity of the national models and factors influencing the regional development;

explanation of possible trends in ethnic and national processes with specific interest in potential of multiculturalism.
